iOP

Our Mission Connection mental health treatment program in Arlington, Virginia, is an intensive outpatient program (IOP) with both in-person and virtual options. We work with you and your schedule to provide flexibility and accessibility to adults struggling with mental health conditions like bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, and more.

Intensive outpatient programs, or IOPs, provide clients with clinical support, therapeutic care, and numerous resources during the day or in the evenings. Clients return home at night and on the weekends, when there is no programming taking place. As opposed to inpatient residential treatment, where individuals spend time on-site 24/7 for a month or two at a time, the IOP level of care is more flexible and accommodating to those with daily responsibilities that they cannot take time away from.

Therapies

Mental health services are not one-size-fits-all. That’s why our clinical team is highly trained to provide a wide range of therapeutic services to meet your specific needs. Therapeutic sessions and activities tend to teach men and women how they can manage their mental health conditions while addressing the root of their struggles.

Types of evidence-based therapy for different needs typically include:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors.
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) aims to help individuals understand and manage negative emotions better.
  • Solution-focused therapies encourage and empower clients to take responsible action when faced with conflicts.
  • Trauma-focused therapies like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) help with processing and healing from past traumas (for example, childhood abuse or distressing events).

In-Person
This is traditional care where you physically go to a therapist's office or a clinic for your sessions.
Think of it like: Going to your regular doctor's office.
Best for: People who prefer face-to-face interaction, need hands-on therapies, or are dealing with a crisis that requires immediate, secure support.
Telehealth / Virtual
This is care you receive remotely using technology, usually through video calls (like Zoom), phone calls, or secure messaging.
Think of it like: A video chat with a friend or a work meeting, but with your mental health provider.
Best for: People who need convenience, have mobility issues, or live far from providers. Good for people that are comfortable using technology.
Hybrid In-Person / Virtual
This is a mix of both in-person and virtual care. Some appointments you attend in the office, and others you do remotely.
Think of it like: A flexible school schedule where you have some classes online and some face-to-face.
Best for: People who want the personal connection of in-person care but also need the flexibility and convenience of virtual appointments.
Residential
This is the most intensive level of mental health care, where you live one of our houses for a period of time (days, weeks, or months) to receive round-the-clock structure and support. It is usually for people with severe symptoms or who have not gotten better with less intensive treatment.
Think of it like: A live-in retreat or school where all your time is dedicated to getting better under professional supervision.
Best for: People who are struggling to function safely or manage their illness at home and need a safe, structured, therapeutic environment.
Unsure
This simply means you don't know yet what level of care is right for you. It's perfectly normal!
Your Next Step: You start by talking to our mental health intake specialist who can assess your needs and recommend the appropriate level of care.
What schedule works best for you?*

A historic city just outside of Washington, D.C., Arlington sits on the Potomac River, drawing many visitors, particularly to the Arlington National Cemetery. The Arlington National Cemetery houses the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a well-known memorial that has been guarded, without interruption, for 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, since 1937.

Beyond its lengthy military history, the city of Arlington is known for its proximity to D.C., its impressive public transportation, and quiet residential neighborhoods. For clients at our Arlington, VA, outpatient treatment facility, the program is accessible both by public transportation and via the I-395. This facility is also not far from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).

Things to Do in Arlington, VA

There are a variety of sights and attractions in Arlington that clients at Mission Connection can experience outside of programming that will complement their mental health treatment plans. Here are a few examples.
